Leopold, a 52 year old man child still living under the stern rule of his eighty year old mother, Sara, has never truly grown up. Awkward, well meaning, and perpetually unlucky, he lurches from one comic disaster to another. When Sara dies peacefully in her chair, Leopold’s already fragile world collapses. His wealthy aunt persuades her son, John, a successful New York accountant, to hire the hapless cousin out of pity.
What follows is a hilarious series of misadventures. Leopold’s chaotic first day in the city, a mangled business contract, a chewed up document courtesy of a dog, an absurd arrest after kicking a police officer “for adrenaline,” and a stint in jail that leaves him bruised but strangely enlightened.
Through humiliation and mishap, Leopold’s innocent heart slowly awakens those around him, forcing even the cynical John to rediscover compassion. From a simple handyman with star shaped glasses and Elvis sideburns, Leopold evolves, painfully but beautifully, into a man who finally understands self respect and kindness.
His Name Is Leopold is a bittersweet comedy of redemption, where clumsiness meets grace and laughter hides a quiet truth. Sometimes, the greatest transformations begin with the most ridiculous mistakes.
